Film Analysis - Media Awards

BLOOM - TULIKA:

Cinematography/camerawork: The cinematography was very effective as it was used to focus on different parts of the surroundings and the character bringing a fast pace, which gives it a more exhilarating feel to watch. Moreover, the zooms in allow us to see the characters expressions properly, letting the audience know exactly what they feel.

Costume The main character of the production wears full black, foreboding that there is something hidden, and she is something to be scared of. However, for the other characters they wear normal, casual clothing as expected of a the youth.

Lighting: There is good use of lighting when the character gains her supernatural traits, the bright light from the sun behind her makes he seem like she is gaining power. Moreover., when the character in the mask appears, he has purple lighting supporting him, this separates him from the others, and creates a ominous feel whilst compelling the audience to look.

Actor expressions: For the most part the main character has mostly sinister expressions which make the audience feel uneasy. Whilst she chases the other characters in the mall they all have terrified expressions, but they do not even have sufficient time to fully react as they have to run.

Make-up: Their makeup is very natural and feminine which is accurately representative of what the average adolescent female would wear.

Props: The mask used creates a sense of uncertainty, making an enigma code which compels the audience to think about who is behind it.

Settings: There are three settings used:
  • The bedroom - This setting is effective as this confined space, makes the character seem secretive an as if they keeps to themself. This may make the audience wonder what exactly it is they get into inside the room.
  • The tunnel - This setting is effective because it it is secluded, and not frequented, so we know something suspicious will occur there.
  • The mall - This setting is effective because it is a public space, and we watch as the character stalks them amongst the public creating anxiety around it.

Editing: The editing used when there is something relevant to her powers going on shows us exactly what her capabilities are.

FAMILY LINES - JULIA:

Cinematography/camerawork: The cinematography is effective, because it seems almost interactive. For example, when she is looking inside the box the camera shot is from below the box, making the audience feel as if they're involved.

Costume: The person who seems to be the main character is wearing black, giving her an eerie feel, as if she is trying to stay hidden from something. whereas, the guy has flashes of blue in his windbreaker.

Lighting: The lighting is very dark, and low-key, this could of been done to emphasise the scary, suspicious things that are going on, and the more things that will unravel. Moreover, it gives the camera a sort of grainy quality, which is fitting.

Actors expressions: The main characters expressions are mainly serious, yet fascinated whilst she discovers things in the box. Moreover, the boy she kidnaps looks very wrong, and has an accusatory expression.

Make-up: There is little to no make-up, it is very raw. This is because they are inside a house, so they are presented comfortably.

Props: There are props around the setting, which gives it a basement type of feel, giving a sense of unease.

Settings: The setting is inside a house, which looks neglected and messy. This all makes when it is revealed that a boy is held hostage there, as there is chaos going on in the house.

Editing: The fast cuts are effective because they create a fast pace, that the audience almost cannot keep up with. Moreover,  the filters used sort of distort, and manipulate the audiences vision of the film, it makes it look like its like memory or through the vision of another.
