Film & TV Language: Sound practical task

 

Part 1: Rukiya

30 sec - parallel

Parallel sound is music that is associated with the scene, we had picked pictures that were romantic, tranquil and have a historical/ classical origin to fit with Tchaikovsky's composition 'Swan Lake'. This is a ballet score, so we had even included photos of people dancing with each other to bring out the musical element.

Part 2: Gurleen

30 sec - contrapuntal

Contrapuntal sound is music that is not normally associated with the scene.

Plan: 

Me and my partner decided to make classical music our base because it creates a sophisticated, elegant and romantic ambience which we thought we could match and contrast well with. I had found old period paintings (mostly renaissance paintings) which I thought embodied and carried the music well to create the parallel half.  For the second half, my partner chose very violent, unflattering and gruesome photos which had a stark contrast to the music to make the contrapuntal effect. We then edited these together on Adobe, successfully showing the effect of the music on the photos and vice versa.
